For most parents this is the evening that they don't mind missing. One of my co-workers decided the day she heard that she wasn't going. In elementary school you got to meet the teacher on the first day of school so it wasn't as important to go to back to school night other than to join the PTA.
Tonight I joined the PTA, got one of their new bags and I met 5 of her teachers. All but one of the core class teachers are very young. Her social studies teacher is only 2 years out of college! It made me feel so old. I skipped the Italian class and met the art teacher at her door. They all seem to be good, and MAC is very lucky to have her very best friend in all of her core classes. I had mixed reports from the different teachers. The chorus teacher said that she hadn't heard about any issues, but her science teacher asked me for a one on one parent/teacher conference.
The mixed chorus sang the opening song and it was another one that made me smile. "We are one family". We did leave a little early. I realized as we got on the highway this evening that I had been up and working for over 12 hours. I am exhausted!
I am thankful for back to school night. I love being able to put a face to a name and to actually talk to them face to face. She already has so many problems that I don't want to make it any worse for her, so I wait for back to school night. Now I get to wait until November when I get to go to school and shadow her for a day!
