...and she's back!

We left the house at 10am this morning to go and meet my parents half way and get our daughter. I had googled directions to the restaurant we were supposed to meet them at and it said 2hours 15 minutes. We were supposed to meet at noon but I figured we'd make the 15 minutes somewhere because once we get into Virginia we usually have straight open highway.

Please notice the use of the word "usually"! It appeared things might be going wrong when we had to turn around at the library to go back and get the cooler for MAC's creamery chocolate milk. Things definitely took a wrong turn when I got onto route 50 at 424 and found that the wonderful state of Maryland had decided to take the highway from 3 lanes down to 1. It took us almost 40 minutes to travel what usually takes 10.

I hate driving. When Hubby and I were first dating I had 2 minor accidents in a week and called him and told him I never wanted to drive again. Yes, go ahead and make Asian driver jokes, he sure did. (And actually continues to do so to this day.) If I could "blink" myself like Genie I would. I would even volunteer myself as a human guinea pig when scientists get a real transporter system ready for testing, as long as I could then be beamed where ever I wanted if I survived.

We hit traffic around DC, we hit traffic outside DC, we hit traffic in Gainsville, and pretty much all the way to Culpeper. We were an hour late to meet Mom, Dad and MAC. Let's just say that I was not in a wonderful and gracious mood when we got there. They had apparently hit some traffic as well so they had only been sitting there for 30 min.

We had to stop and get gas on the way home, so we didn't make it back until 5. Google maps brought us home a different way and once again there was a lot of construction going on. Does anyone else out there think that bringing 4 lane highways to 2 lanes during the middle of the morning is a good idea?

I was really excited because tonight is a pre-season Football game between the Redskins and Ravens. MAC and her father LOVE the Redskins, I root for the Ravens. I figured this would be good bonding time for the three of us. She watched it with us during dinner. She wouldn't let either of us sit too close to her, and squealed when I touched her toe. Now we are almost half way through the game and she has "retired" to her room to sleep. I said, "I missed you." She looked at me as if I had two heads. She's back!

  1. We hit that traffic too heading home from the wedding. Lame to close lanes on the highway during peak vacation travel.
