I missed a very important birthday celebration yesterday and I am very sorry. I would like to thank everyone who has been following the blog for a year. It is hard to believe that a whole year has passed already! As you know it has been a year of ups and downs. I am glad that we have been able to share and I hope you will continue to share this journey with me.
This past week has been a fun mix of heat, more heat, and way too much heat. The heat index took us to well over 115 degrees. MAC has stayed inside with the air conditioning and the TV going.
I look forward to the next year and hope that we all meet here again in 365 days!

These Shoes are made for Walking
Whew! What a beautiful weekend. On Friday we went camping with my friend CM and her family. We have made it a yearly tradition. We started when MAC was the only child, CM has 2 boys now and MAC had a great time playing with them. This year we went to the Maryland Eastern Shore.
The weather was beautiful and the camp site was really nice. I think this is our last year of being able to put us all on the same camping pad. CM's family has a little pop up camper and we have a tent. This is our third year using the tent. I was so happy that it didn't rain and that the temperature was agreeable. I will never forget the year that we went to Deep Creek Lake: the days were hot and humid with temps around 100 and the nights dropped so low we had to buy a blanket and coat.
MAC took a lot of walks. The boys liked for her to walk them around the electric ring pushing their stroller. I think she must have walked the circle 30 times over the weekend! The boys would go to bed asking for a walk with "Maury" and wake up asking for a walk. She also "played trucks", and blew bubbles. She tried to do water gun fights, but the boys didn't have swim trunks and didn't want to get their clothes wet.
I was reminded once again just how good she is with younger children. I wish we could get her translate that patience to older children and adults, I just don't know how.

Changes in Attitude
I know she has figured out how much she loves summer. The water gun battles with the girl down the row, staying up until 9 and being able to sleep until 1, no one making her do homework, no one telling her what she has to do, and the annual camping trip. My sister has got a trip to the pool planned for Monday and MAC has been invited. She has been in a really good mood for the last several days.
I have been really happy that she has been answering her cell phone when I call and as soon as I have asked her to do something she has pretty well jumped up to do it. She earned a dollar today for cleaning the ferret cage and she "packed" her bag for camping. It was not quite the right clothes but we have fixed that.
I am so glad to hear her laugh and see her smile. She has even taken her pills on the first reminder. It makes me happy to see her happy.

Birthday Party
For the first time in several years MAC was invited to a birthday party for someone her own age. It was for her best friend. We got a call last Sunday from MMs mother saying that they were planning a swim party for her.
MAC was so excited! She and her father went shopping for a gift on Saturday and they wrapped in actual pink wrapping paper. In this day and age of "gift bags" it made me laugh to see them wrapping.
The party went so well that MAC stayed late and she and MM played in the pool for an extra hour! It was so nice to see her smiling and laughing yesterday. She slept really late this morning and was in a really good mood when I got home this evening.

Catching Up
Yes, I know it's summer. No I am not on vacation. Yes I know that it's been almost a week since I blogged. No I haven't fallen off the face of the earth.
Sunday went very well. The kids loved being outside with the water guns and I was able to use a Tupperware That's a Bowl to keep them in water. There were a few times when MAC and the youngest boy had words but after a reminder or two about what she used to do, things seemed to get better.
The concert was called off after the first few songs as the sky got darker and darker. We got the instruments put away quickly but before we were able to get the stands and chairs put away Mother Nature let loose! I was soaked to through and through by the time I got to the car.
Monday was great. The concert went well and MAC sat by herself in the crowd. She looked bored and kept mouthing "how much longer?" but was well behaved. We were able to stop at Barnes and Noble for a new journal. She is now on the third installment of her own manga. I have not been privileged enough to read it but Hubby says they are good.
We went to my friend's house for a cook out and swim where we were able to watch the fireworks over the US Naval Academy.
Yesterday was the annual Smithsonian Staff Picnic. The SERC band Muddy Creek, played. We were one of the only all Smithsonian employee bands.
MAC and I babysat for my friend SG last night. MAC and SG's youngest son 'Lil D had a wonderful time playing. They video gamed for a little and played Pokemon for a little.
MAC slept in this morning. We are now looking forward to MAC's best friends birthday party this weekend and the annual camping trip next weekend. All in all a fun filled holiday weekend!

Water Gun Fights
We have been cleaning like fiends for the last several days. I in my infinite wisdom decided to invite several friends over tomorrow afternoon before the Bay Winds Concert. Hubby was not so thrilled and he has been cleaning and weeding the back yard. Tomorrow morning I'll go grocery shopping and then 3 kids will be here to have a water gun fight with M.
We decided to try out the water guns today, just to make sure they worked, and were soaking wet by the time we finished. I have never heard so much laughing as I did this afternoon. She is really looking forward to being able to run around with friends.
If you haven't already, check out my facebook page for a video of M performing "I Will Survive". She did a great job!
